Applied Design and Engineering

Applied Design and Engineering is a world leading and recognised innovator for commercial refrigeration.

Led by the technical expertise of Ian Wood, and with a specific focus on developing refrigeration that outperforms all other products in the market today, the company is best known for its range of  Adande™ fridges and freezers which ‘hold-the-cold’. Trusted by thousands of customers around the world the products are known to perform better than any other professional kitchen refrigeration. Saving up to 70% of energy and preserving their perishable contents for longer, they are trusted to excel even in the most demanding environments.

Since the early 2000s Applied Design and Engineering has won many awards and accolades for its ground-breaking and market leading products. The much applauded Aircell technology joins a range of products that bring significant benefits to its users and the environment.

Aircell Ltd

Commercial development of the Aircell Technology is being managed through the 100% subsidiary Adande Aircell Ltd. This company will sell Aircell shelf sets to cabinet manufacturers to integrate into their chilled multidecks. Through purchase of these shelf sets the manufacturers will gain a license to use the Aircell Technology.

State-of-the-art facilities

Applied Design and Engineering’s state-of-the-art facility is based in Lowestoft, UK. It comprises of an engineering and design hub with bespoke, cutting-edge test rooms which were commissioned by the firm back in 2016. They are used to continually improve, test and demonstrate the performance of Aircell technology, supporting partners to integrate this technology into their cabinets.

Engineering and design hub

Adande Aircell Ltd’s design team has a very successful track record. It has used advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to model the Aircell development with a capability of processing 120,000,000 individual cells (compared to most industry and academic norms of just 250,000 cells). This advanced CFD capability has allowed quick simulation and modelling of design changes to the airflow systems, leading to faster development than the more traditional approach of making multiple physical prototypes to test the effect of specific design changes.

Our CFD suite is capable of simulating; 3D fluid dynamics, with turbulence modelling, conjugate heat transfer, moisture tracking, radiation and buoyancy effects.
